Speaking to matheenu.blogspot Muraidhoo Katheeb (Island Chief) Mohamed Rasheed said that harbor is being constructed by the government to ease the public difficulties in getting access to the island as well as to provide safe anchorage to their dhonis and boats coming in and going out of the island. He said the work commenced on 17 February 2007 and that the harbor is 300 by 200 feet. Katheeb (island Chief) Rasheed said currently navigation lights and entrance channel lights are been installed. He also said to provide effective protection against strong waves, large boulders are being positioned. “We expect the work to be completed within 15 to 20 days; that is if weather permits” said Katheeb (Island Chief). He pointed that while 98% of the work is already complete MTCC had done a lot of work that were not part of the contract. “Due to high swells the large pool of water are formed on either end of the island which is a potential health risks. MTCC in consultation with Ministry of Environment Energy and Water and Ministry of Health has filled up the pools. This has solved the mosquito issue faced by people” said Katheeb (Island Chief).
