Ha.Dhidhdhoo


Ha.dhidhoo is one of the two hundred inhabited islands of republic of Maldives. The island is the capital of the north most atoll of haa.alif. The name “Dhidhoo” in local Dhivehi language means long island. Dhidhoo is located in Thiladunmathi atoll which was partitioned by the government late 1950s into two, namely north Thiladunmathi and south Thilandumathi, for administrative purpose. The capital of north thiladunmathi or haa.alif is the island of Dhidhoo.
The total land area of the island is around 52 hectors where more than 3500 people live. The present inhabitants of the island are originally from the island of Dhonakulhi. The people of Dhonakulhi left the island and migrated to island of Hodafushi which is now in south Thilandumathi atoll. Later these people again left the island of Hodafushi and migrated to island of Dhidhoo which is now the capital of north thiladunmathi. The island of Dhidhoo was under the administration of island of Utheemu Gaduvaru. Until very recently the inhabitants of Dhidhoo were impose with land tax which was payable to the Utheemu Gaduvaru, as the island was under the administration of Utheemu Gaduvaru.
